Sharing geotagged photos and videos on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa Web Albums
One really cool thing to try with the furtiv beta for Nokia devices is sharing geotagged photos and videos on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa Web Albums.
Here is how to setup your phone to geotag photos and videos:
1- Start the Camera in your device. Go to Options -> Settings -> Record Location and set it to “On”. Your phone will now geotag all photos and videos that you shoot.

2. When taking a photo or recording a video, you’ll see a “satellite dish” icon that indicates if your phone has a GPS fix and knows your exact location.

Once the icon changes you can be 100% sure that your picture/video will be geotagged. However, you do not have to wait for the icon to change. If you take a picture before the icon changes, your phone will still try to find your GPS location for a couple of minutes and will geotag your picture. Even if your phone can not get a GPS fix at all (for example, if you are inside a building), it will tag your picture with information of the cellular tower to which it was connected when you took the picture. This cell information is used by furtiv to calculate an approximate location and geotag your picture.
3. Now just upload your media to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or Picasa Web the way you normally do it. When previewing your uploads, you’ll see that the location in being included.
This geotagging example was done with an Nokia N85. If you are using a different phone, the icons and names of the settings may vary be a little, but the steps are pretty much the same. For example, on N97 and 5800 the “Record location” setting is called “Show GPS info” and instead of the satellite dish icon on the Camera you get a pushpin icon. But everything works pretty much the same.
In Twitter, Facebook and YouTube furtiv adds a link to view the location on MapTwits (a minimalistic mapping service for Twitter that also works on mobile phones). On Picasa Web Albums you’ll be able to see the map right next to your photo.
Below are some examples of how geotagged media appears in different services:

Have fun geotagging and sharing your media. Let us know if you run into any problems. We are happy to help. If you still have not configured your phone to use the furtiv beta, you can get your settings here.

BTW, if you are using Share Online 3.x you’ll have to ensure that the setting “Publish all image data” is enabled in Share Online so that it sends your location information. Also, some ‘older’ devices like E71 and N95 do not support geotagging out-of-the-box, so your mileage may vary. You may get your location when you upload to Picasa Web, but not to other services. Please contact at us on twitter.com/furtiv or help @ furtiv.com if you have any questions.

I saw a bug when transferring file (a video) into desktop shortcut, the amount of data transferred, is indicated in KB instead in MB.
I have enabled sharing with Facebook alone, why do not appear on the desktop of my N85 the share icons like those in the screenshot of the page http://furtiv.com/furtiv/Screenshots.htm (Twitter feeds and home screen notifications).
I have the 30.019 firm and I share whitout problem photo and video.
@RESteve open Share Online in your phone and make sure that showing the icons in the home screen is enabled (Options -> Settings -> Advanced > Show in Home screen. Please email us to help@furtiv.com if you keep having problems.
Thank you for your post.
Yes this option is enabled. I can see only facebook icon whitout the * and the balloon.
But furtiv support this share icons (* and ballon) for facebook???
Is under this icon (facebook) on my destop
where I saw that the amount of data transferred, is indicated in KB instead in MB during the upload.
This may depend perhaps OVI Share 3.0 installed on my phone (but not activated).
@RESteve The content feeds and homescreen notifications are only supported for Twitter. For facebook we don’t have content feeds, we simply link to the Facebook mobile page.
Okay, thanks.
And what you say about wrong
indication of the data’s amount while uploading (KB instead MB)?
@RESteve we resize your photos before we upload to Facebook (as Facebook does not store/display the full resolution anyway). This means photos are usually less than 100KB uploads. Videos are uploaded in full size (usually a few MB). To add to the confusion, there is also a bug in some versions of Share Online where it shows KB instead of MB, but to be honest we’ve never seen it for real.
The fourth that you said…
I use a Nokia N96. I’ve record location ‘on’ on my phone camera setting and when i take pictures outdoors the phone record the position (i.e. latitute & longitude) but when i share those photos to Facebook, no info is shown except for the posted date as a caption of the uploaded pic.
how do i make sure the picture location is also shown when i post them to facebook?
thanks
why i can’t move to other album the pictures i’ve d0wnloaded?
This was a problem with the Facebook albums. Facebook has fixed this issue, so moving photos should be possible now. Give it a try again.
good job, guys! I use application for fb, it’s just brilliant!!! It’s simple, it’s usefull and it’s work properly! Greetings from russia!
